Traditional Reiki sessions, in person or at a distance.
Reiki was developed in Japan in the early twentieth century and works on the premise that ki — life energy — flows through the body and can be redirected by a practitioner who has been attuned to channel it. A practitioner has received four major attunements, each unlocking a further level of practice, and will usually tell you which level they have reached. During a session the client lies down fully clothed while the practitioner works with their hands held just above or lightly on the body, working through a set of hand positions to address the whole person rather than a named complaint.
A standard session runs 60 to 90 minutes. Distance healing, in which the practitioner works without the client present, has been used since Reiki was introduced and is treated by practitioners as equivalent to an in-person session; it simply removes the physical component. Many healers will offer it when travel is difficult, which is a large part of why Reiki is common in India at distances like Delhi, Pune, and Chennai. Initial sessions are often longer than follow-ups, and some healers recommend a short series rather than one-off appointments.
Reiki is a complementary practice, not a substitute for medical treatment, and no competent healer will claim otherwise. What people reliably report is reduced tension, better sleep, and a sense of being settled. It is also not a replacement for mental health care. Avoid anyone who promises to cure a diagnosed condition or who tells you to stop taking prescribed medication.
