Operating help for founders — pricing, hiring, sales, and systems.
Business coaching sits between consulting and peer support. A consultant arrives, diagnoses, and delivers a report; a business coach works alongside you over months and the output is what changes in your company. The typical focus is one of a handful of operating problems: pricing and packaging, hiring and building a first management layer, making sales repeatable rather than dependent on the founder's relationships, or writing the standard operating procedures that let the business survive its founder taking a holiday. Owners who are stuck rather than lost tend to get the most from this.
The first ninety days are usually diagnostic. The coach learns your numbers, sits in on a few sales calls, and reviews your customer complaints. Expect a period where nothing visible changes — this is normal, and if a coach is delivering a plan in week two without having met your team or your customers, that is a warning sign. The useful output usually arrives as a set of specific changes with one owner and a date each, reviewed monthly.
Models include hourly or monthly retainers, day rates for intensive work, and structured programmes of several months. On a retainer, expect roughly ₹50,000 to ₹400,000 per month in India depending on the coach's background and the intensity; a founder who has scaled past a certain point should expect a coach who has run that same stage. One warning sign: a coach who sells you business, investment, or marketing products as part of the engagement, or who cannot name a reference client in your sector. Check which of the above problems you actually have before hiring — a coach for the wrong one is just an expensive friend.
